2024 Life Cycle for Canteen OnRoad

Two Days To Go!

With two days to go, I just want to give a huge thanks to everyone who is supporting me and the cause - financially or otherwise - it is all so appreciated and none of this would happen without you.

I've done my final mechanical check and the bike is performing well, no issues there. Lets hope my ol' body can keep up!

It is never too late to donate and support this great cause which is so dear to my heart, and I know the team is closing in on their goal for the year as well, so everything is welcome. I'll post updates and photos here as we go.

Tonight is our jersey presentation night and final brief, and we'll be all ready to ride at 6am from Bassendean on Saturday morning. I'm more excited than apprehensive, so that's a good thing, but I know that it won't be easy (and I wouldn't want it to be) and it will tax me heavily, but it will be worth it in the end.

Plus, it is nothing compared to what these kids are going through in their lives when cancer crashes in. That's why we do it.

One Month Out

Four weeks from now, I'll be ideally pulling into Busselton and enjoying a well-deserved sausage sizzle. Time flies and before we know it, the morning of the ride will be here and we'll be on the road once more.

Training is going well, and I'm definitely fitter than I was last year. Looking forward to being better positioned to support the other riders and complete the event as a team, instead of being the new guy needing support.

Looking to hit my fundraising goal soon to support CanTeen and the kids, so if you're in a position to give then please do so.

LifeCycle 2: Electric Boogaloo

2022 was a big year for me. Not just because I changed jobs and generally had a lot of life changes, but because I *was* big. I peaked at 116kg, and felt it.

With the new job, came a new opportunity. My new colleagues gave a passionate speech about why they ride for this event, why they support this great cause, and I signed up on the spot. Nevermind that I hadn't touched a bike in two decades.

After months of training, I dropped almost 20kg and completed the ride. To call it life changing would be to sell it short. It was the biggest physical undertaking I'd ever done, and given close friends were being supported by CanTeen at that very time, it was so much more real to help in the ways I could.

Now, I'm 83kg, and the fittest I've been since after-school sports as a teen. Maybe moreso. I feel great, and I'm ready to do the ride again. I'm riding five days a week, and that will only be ramping up as March 2024 closes in.

So please, help me help them, and donate if you're able. You'd be hard pressed to find a better cause, or a better organisation behind it.

Thank you to my Sponsors
