add remove

Registering to fundraise online is simple. Simple click here and follow the steps. If you don’t think any of the categories fit your fundraising idea, then click Raise It Your Way.

Why do I need to register online?

add remove

Registration online is quick and easy and enables us to support you along the way and ensure that you have everything you need to fundraise successfully and legitimately. To fundraise for a charity in Australia you need to have an Authority to Fundraise document which is supplied by Canteen. Registering and accepting Canteen’s Terms and Conditions enables us to send you this automatically.

Why do I need to provide my address and phone number?

add remove

We love to speak to you to find out more about why you are fundraising and how we can help you.  We ask for your address so that we can send you one of our fabulous bandanna’s when you raise over $5. If you do not wish to provide these details that is okay also, but we will need your email address as a minimum.

Our community comes up with the most amazing fundraising ideas and it is very rare that we need to decline a fundraising idea or event. We ask that you avoid any fundraising ideas linked to any of the following:

  • Tobacco and smoking
  • Alcohol

Please read Canteen’s fundraising guidelines before you start fundraising and if in any doubt please contact one of the Canteen fundraising team at fundraising@canteen.org.au

Should I use the Facebook fundraising option?

add remove

We currently advise that you do not use the Facebook Donate Button when prompted. Donations made via the Facebook Donate Button are handled and held by a third party and won't appear on your fundraising page. Instead please share the link from your fundraising page and simply decline the option to use the Facebook Donate Button.

Donation Questions

How are the funds I raise used at Canteen?

add remove

You can see the impact fundraisers like you have already had in the lives of young people living with cancer here. You can also meet some of the amazing young people who have already been supported. For every $ you raise Canteen will raise

What is the additional fee which comes up when donating to my page?

add remove

The additional 4% (depending of your bank) is to cover card processing fees and the costs from Funraisin (which is the online platform the website is hosted on). This is something that Canteen has to cover unless donors opt to cover it for us. A check box comes up when entering in your card details saying ‘I’d like to add a little extra to help cover fees’. This will add a small amount to your donation. It is completely up to you whether or not you wish to include it.

How do I ask for donations?

add remove

Its normal to feel a bit shy or uncomfortable why asking people to donate to you. Here are a couple of ways to help you:

  • Be Specific: Tell people the amount they should donate e.g. I am attempted to break the world record for pushups which currently stands at 46,001. I am taking on this immense challenge to support Aussies living with cancer, please support me and donate just $10 today!
  • Be Personal: Include what Canteen means to you and why you are supporting us. This will help people feel connected to you and your fundraising.
  • Be Informative: Tell them what their support will help achieve. e.g. I am raising money to support Canteen’s online support service Canteen Connect. Canteen Connect is vital right now, it provides information and helpful resources for young people impacted by cancer and gives them the ability to easily & safely chat to one of our online counsellors and each other.
  • And lastly, remind people to donate. Your close friends and family will probably welcome the reminder :)

Can I get a tax-deductible receipt?

add remove

Anyone who donates over $2 will be able to get a tax deductible receipt. This should automatically be sent to the email address which you give with your donation. If you have not received one then please email fundraising@canteen.org.au and we can assist you further.

How do I thank people who have kindly donated to me?

add remove

This is a great question. You can easily thank anyone who has donated to your fundraising page by clicking on ‘my donations’ on your dashboard. It will come up with an option to email or Facebook your sponsors and we have even prepopulated this for you to make it even easier to thank people.

I have cash donations, what do I do?

add remove

You can add an offline donation to your page with the donors details, this will ensure that they get a fundraising receipt. Please contact Canteen on fundraising@canteen.org.au if you wish to deposit the cash into Canteen’s bank account – we will need to give you a personal reference number.
