I'm riding to support young people with cancer.
Hi guys as you may know, I work for Canteen as a National Intake clinician, on the 9th March 2024 I will be riding and raising funds in the 25th Life Cycle for Canteen charity ride. The Life Cycle for Canteen is a charity event where rides ride between 270km and 415km over three days to raise money for Canteen.
Canteen is a charitable initiative that supports young people and families affected by cancer. Canteen provides a safe and nurturing environment where individuals can find solace, support, and resources to navigate through their cancer journey. Canteen offers a range of services, including counselling, peer connection via programs and event, education and career support, and practical assistance, all tailored to meet the unique needs of those impacted by cancer. https://www.canteen.org.au/young-people
Why am I doing this you may ask?
As a National Intake Clinician for Canteen, I personally speak to and support over 700 people a year who have been impacted by cancer. I am in awe of the strength, resilience and tenacity demonstrated by these young people and their parents when Cancer comes crashing into their lives. Therefore, I am undertaking this ride to raise funds to support and give back to these wonderful people who have shared their stories with me, at their most vulnerable times.
As you may know I am not a cyclist and this is a major challenge for me but I feel if the young people I support can face cancer I can face a few hundred kilometers on a bike.
I had a wonderful family sell me a great bike for half the asking price to support me to get me road ready. You will see me hitting the roads of the Northern beaches. I will be the cyclist falling off the bike and wearing standard gym cloths. Toot and say hi.
