The Challenge

We’re thrilled to introduce Hike the Light, our series of ‘race the sun’ treks.

Taking place in states across Australia, these events will see participants take on the challenge of hiking from sunrise and pushing themselves to complete the route before sunset.

Join us for spectacular views in the ACT mountain ranges of the Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve; explore the coastal wilderness of Wilson’s Promontory in VIC, or enjoy the breath-taking scenery of Wineglass Bay in TAS.

You’ll be trekking alongside an inspirational young person supported by Canteen, so you'll be taking on this challenge together and learning first-hand the difference you can make.

So, whether you’re an avid bushwalker or a trekking newbie, with a range of distances, scenery and terrain there’s something for everyone.

Choose your trek and join us as we race the sun to help support young people living with cancer.

Meet One of Our Hikers

Hike the Light was the most beautiful and rewarding trek I have ever been on in Australia. The friendships formed, the scenery that unfolded every step of the way, and the satisfaction of pushing yourself to new limits, makes this a once in a lifetime experience for those lucky enough to be involved. I cannot recommend being a part of this amazing event enough!

Sally's Story

Canteen provided the support Sally needed when her Dad was diagnosed with cancer…

“In 2014 I lost the only person I had ever looked up to, the only person that I had ever wanted to be, died. The time after his death I couldn’t see my future, I couldn’t see a life without my dad in it, and I didn’t want to. In so many ways it felt as though I had died with him that day. A year after my dad had been diagnosed, I went on a Canteen camp. It was on this camp that I felt it, I felt what Canteen was. I had never experienced anything like it, the overwhelming sense of belonging. It was on this camp that I realised just how incredible Canteen was and how much I wanted to never forget that almost magical feeling. It is because of Canteen and Canteen only that I am the person I am today.”
