Help stop young people dying from cancer

Every 58 hours, a young person will die from cancer. Some of them will die because they have run out of treatment options available in Australia.

But it doesn’t have to be this way.

Clinical trials are the answer. They can give young people access to breakthrough cancer treatments that might save their lives.

We need your help to get more life-saving treatments in Australia for young people with rare cancers.

Will you donate today to help fund more clinical trials in Australia, which may mean less young people die from cancer?

JOEY RAN OUT OF TREATMENT OPTIONS

Joey is one young person with cancer who ran out of treatment options in Australia. He is only alive today because of a clinical trial in the United States.

But young people shouldn’t have to travel overseas, by themselves, for cancer treatment. They should have access to treatment here, in Australia.

“To go to the US, I crowdfunded the money and my parents had to re-mortgage their home. But, I was lucky. For most people, life-saving treatments like I had are often out of reach and that’s not fair. We need more clinical trials, to create breakthrough here in Australia.”

– Joey, diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma

YOUNG AUSTRALIANS ARE BEING LEFT BEHIND

For many young people diagnosed with rare or deadly cancers, a clinical trial is the only potential lifeline. But right now, there aren’t enough clinical trials for young people in Australia.

Why are young Aussies with cancer missing out on life-saving treatment?

  • The trials don’t exist in Australia
  • The trials are too expensive
  • They are told they are too old or too young to join existing trials
  • COVID-19 means travelling overseas is a risk

Will you help us raise $500,000 to help fund clinical trials for young people with cancer?

Finding breakthrough cancer treatments is expensive, but with your help we can get this off the ground. Your donation will go towards ongoing clinical trials for deadly cancers including brain, bone, blood and other rare cancers.

WE NEED MORE CLINICAL TRIALS IN AUSTRALIA

Will you help us get more youth cancer research happening here?

Without more Australian based clinical trials, young people with rare cancers will continue to die. We can’t let this happen.

Canteen is leading the push to get more clinical trials happening in Australia as soon as possible. With international travel still risky for cancer patients due to COVID-19, the situation is urgent. We need to fund more clinical trials across bone, blood and brain cancers. We already have four clinical trials underway, but we need more to give young people the hope they deserve.

We can’t change this without you. Please help today.

About Canteen

When a young person’s world gets turned upside down by cancer, Canteen is there for them. Among Australia’s most trusted cancer charities, we have been supporting young people aged 15 to 25 through their cancer journey for over 35 years.

I recently attained the age of 75yo. I have been fortunate enough to have lived life free from any serious disease during my lifetime, and only had very minor ailments that most people endure common cold etc. Needless t say I am very greatfull I intend to enter the Powertball draw when the prizemoney is very high, and should I be lucky enough to win a substantial prize, i intend to donate the proceeds to Canteen. At my age I don:t have any need for a huge sum of money. Thank you, Jim

Australia needs these trials here in our own country for our young ones, whilst they are going through what would be an extremely frightening time for them, they should be near their own families & friends whilst having treatment..
